Heraklion port to Heraklion Airport: distance and options

Heraklion port is about 4–5 km from Heraklion Airport: 10–15 minutes by taxi for roughly €15–20, or 20–30 minutes by city bus for €1.30 with a pre-bought ticket. The real question is how much time to leave between your ferry and your flight.

How much time between a ferry and a flight?

Ferries from Santorini, the Cyclades and Piraeus can arrive late, especially fast boats in windy weather (the meltemi blows hard in July and August). We would not book a flight less than three hours after the scheduled ferry arrival for a Schengen flight, or four hours for a UK flight in summer, given how early you need to be at the airport. If you have a lot of time, leave the bags somewhere in the centre and enjoy the old town.

Heraklion Airport to the port

The same trip in reverse: taxi from the rank outside arrivals (ask for “to limani”, the port, and your ferry company’s gate), or the city bus towards the centre. Overnight ferries to Piraeus leave in the evening; if you land in the afternoon, you have time for dinner in town first. See airport to city centre and taxi fares.
