Price for the whole car (up to 4 passengers), indicative ranges from published fares and transfer quotes, October 2026. Night tariff (roughly midnight to 5 am) adds about 20–30%. Large luggage and waiting time can be extra.
How Heraklion taxis charge
In the city the meter must run: tariff 1 by day, tariff 2 at night. For longer runs to the resorts, drivers often quote a set price instead, which is legal and usually fair if it falls within the ranges above. Agree it before the car moves, and say if you want to pay by card: taxis must carry a terminal.
Taxi or transfer from Heraklion Airport?
For the city and the near resorts (Gouves, Hersonissos), the taxi is quick and fair. From Malia outwards, and for any arrival after midnight, compare with a pre-booked transfer: the price is fixed per car, it includes waiting time if your flight is late, and you skip a queue that can reach 30 minutes on summer Saturdays. Families with four or more people should book a minivan rather than squeeze into one taxi or pay for two.
All options (bus, KTEL, taxi, transfer, rental) are compared on Heraklion Airport transfers; the rank and how it works are on Heraklion Airport taxi.
Is it easy to get a taxi at Heraklion Airport?
Yes: the rank outside arrivals is served 24/7. Waits happen when several charters land at once, typically summer weekend afternoons and around midnight. Going back to the airport from a small resort before 6 am is harder: ask your hotel to book the night before.
