By city bus

Walk out of arrivals, turn left to the bus shelter and take a bus showing the city centre on its display. The ride follows the coast road into town and stops around Eleftherias Square and the Koraka / port area, which is where most central hotels are. Buy the ticket at the kiosk (€1.30) or from the driver (€2.30) and validate it. More on lines and timetables on our bus page.

By taxi

The rank is right outside arrivals. Give the hotel name and street: the old town has a one-way system and pedestrian zones, and drivers will drop you at the nearest point a car can reach. Expect €20–25 by day. Fares to other places are on Heraklion Airport taxi.

How to get to Heraklion Airport from the city

The reverse trip works the same way. Buses to the airport leave from stops around Eleftherias Square; taxis can be hailed at ranks in the centre or booked by your hotel. On summer afternoons the coast road can crawl near the airport turn-off, so leave 15 extra minutes. With a long wait before a night flight, the centre is the place to spend it: the Venetian harbour, the Morosini fountain and the archaeological museum are all walkable; see where to stay if you need a room.

Walking?

Google Maps will suggest a 1-hour walk. With luggage, in summer heat, along main roads: don’t.
