Where to stay near Heraklion Airport
For an early flight or a late landing, stay within 15 minutes of Heraklion Airport. That means the city centre, the port, the Nea Alikarnassos district right next to the runway, or the beach at Amnissos to the east. We usually choose the centre: dinner by the harbour beats a view of the car park.

City centre: our default choice
Central Heraklion is 5 km from the terminal. You get the Morosini fountain, the market street (1866 Street), the archaeological museum and the Venetian harbour within walking distance, plus taxis available at any hour for the ride back. Next to the runway: Nea Alikarnassos
The district around the airport has small hotels and apartments 1–2 km from the terminal. It only makes sense for flights before 6 am or if you land after midnight and fly again the next morning. Check the reception hours: small places often close the desk at night.
Getting to the airport in the morning
Ask reception to book a taxi the evening before (about €20–25 from the centre). The city bus starts around 6 am. For a group or a 4 am departure, a pre-booked transfer is the safe choice.
